The Wheeler Centre was created in 2010 when Melbourne was officially designated a UNESCO City of Literature, recognising the city's international leadership in books, writing and ideas. In just four years, the Wheeler Centre has established itself as one of Australia's leading arts organisations, dedicated to making public conversation an art form The Wheeler Centre passionately believes in the power of ideas and conversation and we have created a hub for the literary and ideas activity that defines this city. There is no Box Office at this venue, please pre-book your tickets

The Wheeler Centre is serviced by tram stops on Swanston Street. The venue is a 5 minute walk from Melbourne Central Train Station.

Accessibility Information

Physical Access

Every effort has been made to ensure that the Wheeler Centre’s events are accessible for wheelchair users or those with limited mobility. Wheeler Centre events have unallocated seating – please contact us if you require reserved seating to accommodate your access needs.

The Wheeler Centre building is accessible by a ramp located to the right of the entrance on Little Lonsdale Street, approximately 25m along. We are happy for patrons to stay in their chair or to transfer to a seat. Please let us know when you book.

Companion Seats

If you require the assistance of a companion to access venues, please note the Wheeler Centre offers a second ticket to paid events at no cost to Companion Card holders (or similar) at the time of booking.

Hearing Loop 

The Wheeler Centre operates a hearing loop in our Performance Space, which allows patrons who are wearing a hearing aid to tune in to the frequency of the venue. If you require hearing assistance at an off site event, please contact us when you book your ticket.

Parking

There are disability metered street-side parking spaces (x 2) available on the left-hand side of Little Lonsdale Street – accessible from the Swanston Street end – roughly 25 metres from the Wheeler Centre’s wheelchair access ramp.

There are three additional spaces on LaTrobe Street, outside Mr Tulk.
