Melbourne on Film book (Pre-order + Admit One)

The story of Melbourne could not be told without MIFF. So, this August, the 70th edition of the Melbourne International Film Festival will include a specially curated program of films depicting the iconic moments where our city and our cinema meet.

To commemorate this very special strand, MIFF has partnered with Black Inc. to produce an exciting book of essays reflecting on select films from the program. Melbourne on Film celebrates the long, rich and diverse history of filmmaking in Melbourne. It was the city where the first ever feature-length film was screened, in 1906 – The Story of the Kelly Gang. It was also the birthplace of classics like Monkey Grip, Ghosts of the Civil Dead, The Castle and Mad Max, plus many fascinating shorts and experimental films.

Melbourne on Film includes personal reflections on the legacy and influence of these key films by some of the city’s favourite writers, including Christos Tsiolkas, Sarah Krasnostein, John Safran, Osman Faruqi, Tristen Harwood and Judith Lucy.

Pre-order your copy of Melbourne on Film - Cinema that defines our city by 31 March to receive a complimentary admit one for MIFF 70.

*Your complimentary admit one will be automatically added to your account following purchase. All books pre-ordered will be available to collect from the MIFF Box Office throughout the duration of the festival, 4–21 August 2022.
