Situated in the heart of Melbourne’s CBD on Flinders Street, the Forum Theatre, with its unique Gothic-Romanesque architecture, is the place-to-be. The interior of the venue is no less elaborate with a sky-blue ceiling creating an illusion of an outdoor amphitheatre setting.

Box Office

This Box Office is open one (1) hour before the first screening until fifteen (15) minutes after the final screening commences. All MIFF box offices are cashless so only EFTPOS and credit card are accepted. Cash is not accepted.

The Box Office is located inside the Forum on the left-hand side of the ground floor foyer. Forum has one small step up to the central double doors. Step free access is via a ramp through the right-hand side set of doors.

 

Food and Beverage

The Forum features a bar/candy bar, located in the mezzanine foyer, for refreshments, snacks, beer and wine.

Public Transport

  • The Forum is located in close vicinity to Flinders Street Train Station and is serviced by both Swanston Street and Flinders Street trams. Go to ptv.vic.gov.au for public transport information.
  • Level access tram stops nearby are Stop 13 Flinders Street Station, Stop 11 Collins Street (Swanston St/Collins St) for trams 1, 3/3a, 5, 6, 16, 64, 67 and 72 and Stop 6 Russell Street (corner Russell St and Flinders St) and Stop 5 Flinders Street Station for trams 75, 70 and 35.

 

Parking

  • Secure Parking is proud to be a partner of the Melbourne International Film Festival. They are offering all MIFF filmgoers discounted parking at selected car parks. Accessibility Information

Venue Access  

  • The Flinders Street entrance to the Forum has one small step up to the central double doors. Step free access is via a ramp through the righthand side set of doors.
  • Cinema access from Flinders Street is via the large railed staircases to the left and right of the foyer. The two staircases lead to an upstairs foyer containing a bar and refreshment area.
  • For step free access to the cinema space as well as the mezzanine foyer bar, there is a lift through the ground floor foyer down the small corridor on the left-hand side. Please see a FOH staff member for lift access.
  • There are 44 steps in total to enter the cinema, 23 steps to the upstairs foyer and an additional 21 steps to the cinema. Inside the cinema, the steps are quite steeply raked and uneven with no handrails. There are 30 steps from the front row to the back row.
  • If you require step-free access, please refer to the How to Book Your Tickets section to inform FOH staff that you may require extra assistance.

 

Cinema Seating

  • Forum is a fully seated venue. There are 4 rows of 17 fixed seats (Rows B-E) that are step-free access at the front of the cinema. Rows F to V are only accessible by stairs which do not have a handrail. 
  • Forum has some alternate seating options if the stairs or seating within the cinema are not suitable. Approximately 15 moveable plastic chairs without arm rests. 
  • Forum has a number of wheelchair accessible spaces available at the front of the cinema on the right-hand side (facing the screen). Please refer to the How to Book Your Tickets section to book a wheelchair accessible space. Please ask a MIFF FOH staff member for assistance when you arrive at the venue.
  • Each seat is cushioned, covered in soft fabric and have arm rests. 

 

Access Services

  • Assistive Listening: This venue will have assistive listening units available for collection at the MIFF Box Office for use with specific films screening at Forum this year.
  • Please see How to Book Your Ticket section to book an assistive listening device. You will be required to leave photo ID when borrowing a device. Please ask a MIFF FOH staff member for assistance when you arrive at the venue. 
  • Quiet Space: There is a small quiet space located in between the bathroom, on the left hand side of the bar. This is a dimly lit room with soft, comfortable furniture. Noise cancelling earmuff are available in this space. The quiet space does not have a view of the screen. 

 

Bathrooms 

  • There are gender neutral bathrooms on the mezzanine on the left and right sides of the bar.
  • An accessible bathroom is located to the left of the main entrance foyer on the ground level, accessible through a small corridor or from the cinema space, via the lift.
